Session 13 - Muddled waters
September 25th, 2026 — Meera
Thank you Rib. Really, truly thank you, from the bottom of my this-shall-not-be-named, for this horrendous assignment you just foisted on us. While I’m better with water, that doesn’t mean that I want you to find all the assignments that get us deep into muddy waters. (hiss….)
Though it is a shame what is happening, and people really need our help. The basement of the Potter Amaike was flooded. It turned out the canal wall was sabotaged using acid. Probably to hit the house of magistrate-mayor Asanda. They’re fixing their own house, and the university can fix the rest. Turns out we can’t fix this on our own, we need somebody who is really good at telling stories. Okoro helps us out as main caster of the ritual called ‘communal repair’, it repairs things back to how they should be and are remembered by the community. Really useful, but not that easy. We needed two days to get everything fixed.
I made good progress with the cleanup of Tree Stump Library this week. I restored a lot of the furniture and other stuff that we need to start organizing the remaining books. I may have even found a table that could be the start of the coffee corner that the Midnight Library Coffee Club wants in exchange for helping out with the remaining tasks.
Today we met an ancient local spirit that could only communicate in Xanmba. While on the one hand that was quite an interesting spirit, on the other hand they had decided that Rib was the enemy and needed to be dealt with. It also had access to a magical golem Mariama Keitana had prepared and had access to some random wand that was wedged in as a power source, which made it quite dangerous. While we were able to disable the golem and spirit, I don’t remember much from Mariana’s talk afterward.
Where people gather, you always get people that just want to mooch off other people. Janatimo asks us to figure out what is happening with a group of robbers robbing street artists. To make a long story short, we found out that a gang led by Reth was stealing artists' instruments when they’re packing up. They wanted a quick buck, but the underworld higher ups don’t like all the attention it is getting and we’re getting some pointers to the right neighbourhood. They attacked us, and we made a citizen's arrest, keeping all of them alive thankfully. Reth’s boss is called Froglegs, presumably the same Froglegs we heard about a while ago. Not sure if Froglegs is on the side of Reth or not, but that is for the city guard to find out. But Janatimo was happy with us solving at least this part of the issue.
